The combination of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things promises to transform human-machine interaction and redefine many key industries in the near future. To unlock the potential of the new technology and prepare Saudi youth for the next digital revolutions, stc organizes the AIoT Hackathon looking for innovative ideas that utilize AIoT in 3 key domains: Smart Cities & Industries - Agriculture - Healthcare.
The AIoT Hackathon with stc will happen on 10-12 October virtually and is open for all university students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and stc employees in stc and stc subsidiaries. Powered by Nokia and Ultrahack. The Hackathon is 48 hours, starting at 15:00 on the 10th and ends at 15:00 on the 12th October.
Read more about the Challenge, Resources, and Timeline below.
Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) is the next generation of digitalization. With more connected devices gathering data in real-time and AI algorithms built on the data to predict and optimize any operations, the combination of AI and IoT (AIoT) can transform human-machine interaction in the future and redefine many industries.
stc is looking for innovative solutions to unlock the AIoT potential in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the use cases of Smart Cities and Industries, Agriculture and Healthcare.
AIoT integrated on the city-level can enable a safer and more convenient living environment for the citizens. Applications can include smart energy grid and smart traffic management. Within the Industrial context, AIoT enables manufacturers to optimize their operations and enhance workplace safety.
stc is especially interested in Predictive Maintenance as an application of AIoT in both city and industry context. Predictive maintenance allows manufacturers and cities to proactively diagnose and prevent problems in pretty much all machineries and infrastructure - from factories to roads and residential buildings. Predictive maintenance can increase productivity by 25%, reduce breakdowns by 70% and lower costs by 25% with the manufacturing context (Deloitte).
Saudi Arabia has a SAR400-billion manufacturing industry and 87 growing cities with increasing demand for AIoT applications.
Objective: Your challenge is to build a prototype, demo or proof-of-concept of a business use case for AIoT in Smart City or Smart Industries context such as Predictive Maintenance of Equipment, Transportation, Buildings and Enhance Personal Safety and Security.
Solving the food puzzle with limited natural resources and minimal impact on the environment is one of the key challenges for every country in the 21st century, especially a part of Saudi Vision 2030. AIoT promises the key to unlock that puzzle. AIoT enables farmers to optimize the use of their land and yield the highest amount of crops, evaluate the amount of natural resources and pesticides used and even monitor impact on the environment. With the huge potential presented, AIoT is predicted to be the fastest growing technology segment (according to PwC).
The key challenge to agriculture in Saudi Arabia is the scarcity of land and water resources, limiting agricultural practices to a few locations with necessary resources. Building food reserves against emergencies is one focus within the Saudi Vision 2030.
Solution domains we appreciate include: Optimizing resource management (water and land) and resource quality management Smart agriculture system to detect and prevent pests and diseases and monitor plant nutrition and health through precipitation, temperature and other data. Aquaculture Urban farming Reduce wastage in agriculture supply chain
Objective: Your challenge is to build a prototype, demo or proof-of-concept of a business use case for AIoT in Agriculture within the above listed solution domains.
Imagine the future where every patient receives healthcare services tailored exactly to their needs. Imagine doctors and nurses having their hands free from mundane tasks and focus on more intensive care for each patient with the help of intelligent devices. These are just a few examples of what AIoT can enable in the healthcare industry. Currently AIoT can support healthcare professionals in providing better diagnostics and treatment while reducing costs and restraint on resources. But in the future, will it offer solutions for preventative healthcare so that we won’t get sick in the first place?
Within the Saudi Vision 2030, the focus on healthcare is to promote preventive care on reducing infectious diseases and to improve treatment for chronic diseases such as health disease, diabetes and cancer.
Objective: Your challenge is to build a prototype, demo or proof-of-concept of a business use case for AIoT in Preventive Healthcare or Chronic Disease treatment.
